Euphemisms and neologisms in the context of the war in Ukraine

Abstract

The article presents and analyses euphemisms, neologisms and other stylistic and lexical devices such as metaphors, collocations or idioms related to the war in Ukraine used in the media. A brief overview of unique resources in the Spanish-language media is given. Some examples that appear in the media content after 24 February 2022 until March 2023 are provided. Based of a
qualitative text analysis, we focus on the abusive and unnecessary use of euphemisms and their influence on the readers. We also analyze other special or neological resources having appeared in connection with this matter. The present study shall facilitate the use of research results in order to make bigger the thematic scope of training programs more significant for university students of
Spanish in Slovakia.
