Abstract
Manuals and materials used in teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) often
incorporate diverse cultural stereotypes. These stereotypes allude to the national identity, culture, and history of the reference country, encompassing not only Spain but also the national identities and peoples of the Americas. Such inclusion constitutes a resource for the development of intercultural competence.
