Abstract
In Recollections of things to come (1963) Elena Garro gives strength to a series of women who live in Ixtepec under the military government during the time of the Cristero War (1926-1929) in Mexico. In this article, the destruction of the female image in the work is analyzed, divided into three stages, related to the different interpretations about the cultural archetype of Malinche by Octavio Paz, Luis Barjau and Rosario Castellanos. The cause that the women undertake, led by Julia and Isabel, is presented to show their fight against patriarchal power in order to free themselves from the yoke to which they are subjected. The destruction of the female image constitutes an individual and social tragedy that helps to review the suffocating past and aspire to a desirable tomorrow for the women under the postmodern context.
