Tigre Juan y el curandero de su honra: Ramón Pérez de Ayala ante el Donjuanismo

Abstract

In this article we will analyse Pérez de Ayala’s novel Tigre Juan y el curandero de su honra (1926), in which the author demystifies the myth of Don Juan and the theme of honour, through a critical approach on the one hand to the don Juan character (in the first part, Tigre Juan) and on the other hand to the issue of honour (in the second, El curandero de su honra). This critical view is related to the demystifying tradition of other twentieth-century authors and texts, and it is also connected with the context of the noucentist generation to which the author belongs. Throughout these pages we will analyse the novel in order to show how the characters, thematic axes and narrative techniques depict this renovating and demystifying vision. We shall begin by
framing Pérez de Ayala in the context of his generation, Noucentisme, and continue with a detailed examination of the novel, taking into account the author’s distancing approach.
