Abstract
The main objective of this investigation is to correlate the real usage of oral Communication Strategies displayed by students of Spanish as a second language to their own declarative knowledge about it. The subject of Communication Strategies regarding the question of consciousness is a topic of great interest in the field of Spanish learning and teaching. Nevertheless, the importance of the level of consciousness that speakers have over their own strategic competence and the role that teaching has surrounding metacognition in oral behaviour are still unanswered questions. This analysis is the continuation of a previous study (Actis y Figueroa, 2020). After adding the observation of an intervened group of subjects to our previous analysis of the monitoring group, we identified several differences between the use of various strategies. Even though these results are not definitive, they are fundamental to continue the investigations about the part that consciousness plays in the use of Communication Strategies by speakers of a second language, as well as the purpose of teaching said Strategies in courses of Spanish.
